Once they allowed us on the ship, we checked out our room #11294. We were shocked that we had a nicely upgraded room with a balcony. They must have offered it to us for a very cheap price for us to upgrade, but we hadn't remembered taking that option. Most of the time it didn't really matter but there was one sunny afternoon while we were onboard waiting for excursions to arrive, that we actually sat on our deck and basked in the sunshine for a few minutes. It was an exceptionally nice break from cooler, cloudy, and sometimes rainy weather.
Here I am standing on the balcony with the city of Warnemunde and the train tracks in the background. We were about 300-400 yards from the train station so taking the train after the cruise wasn't going to be a problem. After we checked out our room, we hit the buffet line since we hadn't really had a meal since our shared Brat at lunch the day before. The food tasted great and we were rejuvenated to spend a few hours walking around and checking out Warnemunde.
Warnemunde was a very cute, touristy port town with lots of shops and restaurants and lots of small vacation apartments. When we tried to book a room, we just looked for major hotels. Those were all in Rostock. The tourists who come to this town book individual apartment-type rentals for a few days, weeks, or the season.
The beach at the end of town was very nice and even through it was chilly, I took off my shoes and walked in the sand and then walked into the icy water, of course. I can see how these place would be VERY popular during the summer season. A couple of people were actually swimming which was hard for me to comprehend. I was glad we checked out the beach that afternoon since it was raining a very cold when we returned at the end of our cruise.
There were lots of fishing boats, markets and restaurants serving fish.
Steve got a kick out of the advertising for bowling on the roof of the building across the tracks from the port.
Here's our little deck where we enjoyed a big of sunshine before leaving. Many cruisers had boarded in Copenhagen the day before and had a long excursion day into Berlin by bus. We spent our time getting acquainted with the ship and relaxing.
We also enjoyed the king size bed in our room.
That evening we enjoyed a nice sit down dinner and then went to the auditorium for a broadway style show. We love the musical presentations each night.
After spending the next day at sea, we will port in Tallinn, Estonia. We are excited for our upcoming adventures.
