We started our week out with snow! Nothing stuck in Independence but our boss had 2 1/2 inches in St. Joseph's and it's only the 15th of October. This week, we were responsible to take care of the Visitor's Center. Steve ended up fixing the flusher on this toilet in the women's restroom and of course, we had lights to change. We had the Josephson's with us most of the week to train them.
Monday evening we had our senior family home evening. It was nice and the food was excellent as usual. I made baked beans this time. Steve enjoyed the leftovers.
I gave away my silver shampoo, (it makes me itch) and Sister Langford was ecstatic!

We didn't personally see Hauns Mill, but the Chamberlains sent us these two photos taken this week. We couldn't believe how much the water has receded. Maybe we will be mowing soon.

The men cut down and rebuild a chair cart to fit under the stage at Leavenworth chapel.
Tuesday night we had a fun well-attended craft night sponsored by the Riverview Relief Society.
It was great to have so many sisters attend and bring their daughters along also.
Wednesday we were at Leavenworth to evaluate a worn out water heater. Newer furnaces had been installed which blocked the old 80-100 gallon heater in. It was a huge job to take it apart and remove it. We had to return the next day with more equipment to get it completely out and build a wall to installand anchor a new unit.
While we were at Leavenworth, I got to make a trip up to the attic with Mark to inspect the installation of Hurricane brackets. I'm sure I was afford this opportunity because of my small size. The contractor who did it didn't complete the job, but expected to be paid for it. Surprise!
One day it was actually nice enough to eat lunch outside. We will eat almost anywhere.
We had Sisters Jones and Parkins to dinner on Wednesday night.

While the men worked on removing the water heater, we women changed a LOT of lightbulbs!
Friday we started the huge task of removing all of the summer flowers.
When we removed the sweet potato vines at Liberty Jail, we found huge sweet potatoes in the ground. We got three buckets full. We will cook some up to see if they are any good.
Friday night, we had an amazing fireside with Kimberly Jo Smith, Joseph and Emma's great great granddaughter and her son Bryan Davis. It was truly a thrill to hear them and feel their strong spirit! They talked, bore their testimonies and sang. The room was full so I was happy about that since I had coordinated with her to get her to come to Independence to do this. Their music and harmony were beautiful! These elders brought investigators so they could attend. None of the non-members I invited ended up coming. Their loss indeed!
Saturday we got up early to make the drive to Adam-Ondi-Ahman. We were there early enough to make a quick trip farther up the road to Jamesport to pick up some Amish Jam. This buggy drove into the parking lot, just as we were leaving the country store.
The presentation about the saints removal from Davies County was given by the AOA director's wife, Sister Hutchins. There was a nice sized group there for this 180th anniversary commemoration.
We had become good friends with the Hutchins so we were allowed to tag along with their family members on a private tour of the Battle of Crooked River site.
This site is located on privately owned property. The MMFF president, Keith Bowen, is friends with the owner so after signed liability waivers, our group was allowed to hike a couple of miles down to the river and cross it to get to the actual battleground site. Brother Bowen is the only person allowed to take people to see this site and over the years he has taken about 50 people to see it. We feel very blessed to have had this unique and interesting opportunity. We even waded through the river to get to the battle sight where three men lost their lives, including apostle David W. Patton.
We walked way past the pond and across the meadow, then through the trees to the river. The cows had just been removed that morning.
Sunday, we were very excited as most of the Bukasa family came to church. It took two cars to bring the mother,Rebekah, three sisters, Christina and Neville. What joy!
Tonight we hosted Paige Bremner, Brenda Parrot, Jolynette Agee, and Elder & Sister Love for dinner.
It's been a very busy week and we see that this next week will be very busy also.
