August 15, 16, 17 were spent helping my brothers, Steve and Greg, prepare and host a big garage sale during their annual HOA sponsored garage sale event. We all put lots of items up for sale to raise money for them to help with some financial challenges. They sold lots, but had lots left over so they may repeat the event in a couple of weeks.
I left that afternoon so we could join our mission friends, the Johnsons and Briggs at the Utah County Fair in Spanish Fork. We love to get together when the Johnsons visit from AZ and the fair sounded like a good option.
There was an amazing Lego display that filled most of an entire building. Lego fans be aware.
Of course, we sampled lots of fun food items. I think that our over all favorite was the fresh pineapple whip. It was refreshing and delicious on a hot, hot afternoon.
Our entertainment concluded with the Demolition Derby. None of us had been to one before and this one is an extremely popular annual event. The stands were full of fans who actually knew what to expect. It was crazy and noisy watching the cars and trucks crash into each other trying to disable their opponents.
We stayed at our Murray house rather than drive all the way to CV that night and drove up early on Sunday morning.
When watering my flower pots on Sunday, I was thrilled to notice this gorgeous bloom on one of our cana plants. We love it!
Jameson came over early to dinner to help grandpa oversee his "smoked ribs." They didn't burn this time so we are making progress.
We had Cara make a special cake to celebrate Britton and Steve's birthdays this upcoming week. Britton turns 18 on the 20th and Steve turns 71 on the 21st. Happy Birthday to two great guys!
When we actually served the cake and ice cream, the Kirks joined us. When you have Cara make the cake, then you automatically include the Kirk family in the celebration.
One of our favorite young missionaries from our Missouri Independence Mission, arrived in CV this week to begin school at Utah State. Hayden Earl was able to eat leftover ribs plus join us for cake and ice cream. Then he helped Steve unload our table in the barn for future finishing.
On Monday, I went to the distribution center to purchase new garments. I mentioned to the clerk that I was purchasing "Friend" magazine for my grandkids who lived in Shanghai, China. The fellow behind me spoke up and said that his family lived in Shanghai China. It turned out that with the realignment of the boundaries, they now live in Taylor and Jen's branch and know them. We all posed for a photo which they promptly WeChatted to Taylor. What a fun little tender mercy to meat them. They were in the US to have their 6th baby.
Monday night we hosted missionary friends for dinner at our little Murray basement apartment. We all squeezed in and had a delightful dinner including a celebration of Steve's birthday that week. Our friends are so thoughtful.

The next day we flew to Texas to help out with Tiffany's shoulder surgery on the 21st. That evening, we went for Pizza at a local place owned and run by a very nice Russian man. The pizza and salad bar were made fresh for us. It was a tasty end to our long travel day.

After Shawn and Steve gave Tiffany a blessing, I felt comforted and less worried about the upcoming surgery. It went well but as in the case of most surgeries, it was a rough day for our patient, Tiffany.
But she was home and doing her icing and exercising by the end of the day. Ugh!
She was doing much better the next day and she was an excellent patient following the doctor's and nurse's orders explicitly. Shawn is truly an excellent nurse.
Saturday morning, Steve and I left the patient in Shawn's care and made the almost 2 hour drive to Gilmer to drop off a surprise grocery delivery to a certain Texas missionary.
It was so fun to surprise Brinley and her companion, Sister Crandall, with some homemade jam, chicken salad, fresh fruit, etc. They were totally surprised!
Then we drove back to Tyler and joined Tiffany, Abigail and Shawn at their favorite breakfast place.
