And The Heat Goes On...

After Shawn left on the 24th we had some additional celebrating to do.  CV celebrated the Pioneer holiday on Monday the 25th with a parade. Hilary's family hadn't yet returned from Adam's family reunion so Tiffany, Abigail, Steve and I went to the parade on our own.  We were stationed close enough for Abigail to get in on the goodies but we didn't have to stand in the heat too long.
A few days later I was able to get together with my siblings to celebrate Greg's 65th birthday.  He has a lot of problems with his stomach but he was able to eat the soup I made and have some cake too.  We love getting together at their new home.  We all worked on organizing his office for several hours prior to eating our lunch.  We are making progress but we aren't finished yet.

In the meantime, Abigail and Korinne made a retreat in the back of the pickup.  That was one of their favorite places to play during Abigail's last week in CV.

The neighbor's had a bubble machine attached to the hose with a slip and slide.  Our yard provided the site for a lot of fun on the last weekend in July.
The kids got so cold playing in the hose water, they requested hot chocolate on the deck.

Abigail and Korinne helped pick, pit and dehydrate apricots and also assisted in making freezer jam. Our home grown apricots were delicious.

Steve has been diligently working week after week to improve our sprinkler system.  Here he is adding an extra line for the grass and flowers in the front.

On the 27th and 28th, there were two realtor events associated with the local Parade of Homes showcasing new construction homes for the SL valley.  On the 27th we attended a breakfast and then toured several homes in the Daybreak area.  Tiffany and Abigail have been in town the past several years so we seem to have sort of a tradition here.  This year Steve was available also.  It was hot, but fun.

One day Tif, Abigail and I sandwiched in a pedicure.  Oh so nice!
On the 28th we attended a lunch at another Parade location.  It was a beach party theme which definitely went with the 100+ degree temperature.

On Saturday, we were back in CV cleaning the garage and sorting the donated items for our Zimbabwe missionary project.  It was actually the date of our 46th anniversary.  Steve was very happy to have his garage cleaned and to feast on stuffed zucchini from our garden.
We have also rearranged our family room and we really like it.  The room feels bigger.  We were pleasantly surprised by the results of this sudden need to move furniture.

Sunday we posed for an anniversary photo before church.  Not bad for a "mature" couple!
Monday, Heather and Aaron drove down to bring Anna and Jantzen so they could fly back to Texas with Tiffany the next day.  We had a couple of hours to eat, get zoned and visit.  The cousins were very happy to spend some time together too.

Tuesday morning bright and early, we dropped them all off at the airport.  I think they were all pretty excited for a Texas experience.

These beautiful sunset photos were taken on our anniversary from the CV deck.

Sometime in July, we put together our long planned Travel Board.  We will display pictures from our travels here.  We like having a place to put our travel pictures all in one location.  It took quite a bit of research before we finally settled on this method of displaying them.  I will say that it was a lot less expensive than other ideas we had considered.  It is a work in progress but we are very happy with it.
We picked the apples from our transparent apple tree.  The fruit ripens early and is perfect for applesauce or pies.  I think we will be making applesauce from these little beauties.  One night when I was too tired to cook, Steve spoiled me with a trip to David's Kitchen for Chinese food.  We called it our anniversary dinner.
On August 5th and 6th, we traveled back to ID for Steve's class reunion.  We stayed at Brent and Kathy's.  As you might guess, they are wonderful hosts.  We decided to visit a local restaurant for breakfast.  Then we drove out to Wapello to see Grandma and Grandpa's old farm.
This is the house that Steve's uncle lived in.  Steve's family had remodeled a chicken coup on the left side of this dirt road and they lived in it.  It has since been torn down.  The old house was in very poor shape but a family is still living there.  Steve says he remembers big trees on both sides of the dirt lane to the house.  It is sad to see the place in such a neglected condition.
We drove further north on the old highway to find the barn the class group was going to meet in that night for dinner.  We located the place and then continued to the next little town named Firth.  We arrived just in time for the Little Buckaroo parade.  It lasted about 8-10 minutes.  Then we drove around the corner and watched it a second time.  It was short but sweet.
