Here is a photo of one of his many former girlfriends, Pat Hoge. This was our first time to meet her husband. We took a tour of the high school which has been extensively expanded. They city has really "upped the building," but probably downgraded the program. You know--everyone gets a trophy now.
This was the "old gym" which was the hub for all of our activities. Today they have a beautiful big new gym and a separate auditorium for plays and musical programs. Below is the marquee sign and Steve was responsible for raising the money and having the sign installed. That was quite an accomplishment in the day.
It turned out to be a fun weekend, reconnecting with many "old" friends. It was really sad to see many of them in such poor health. And of course, there were quite a few who have passed away now. We came home feeling really blessed as our health is good and our children and grandchildren are doing well.
The next Friday, Steve and I had to divide and conquer. The Century sales manager's mother had passed away so Steve attended her graveside service in the blistering heat while I sat in the cool comfort of the Salt Lake temple for Cassie and Jace's wedding. It was an exceptional sealing service so I definitely got the better end of the deal. Most of the photos below were taken as we waited outside the temple for the bride and groom to emerge for photos. Here is my sister Cathy with two of her grandsons.
Lauren, Riley's daughter, was so excited. She really loves Cassie and couldn't stand the wait for her to come out of the temple. Clayton above was equally excited. They hugged Cassie so much, we feared her veil and dress would be damaged but she was so sweet to give them both attention first thing.
Steve Kerr volunteered to tend the kids in the waiting area during the ceremony. He brought puzzles and a storybook. He is always so thoughtful. Below is Stacey's family.
We drove back up to CV on Friday night so we could take care of things on the home front. Of course there was yard and garden work awaiting us, but we also had a lot of packing up to do. We needed to prepare for the movers and stretchers on Thursday. We had to pack up our office supplies and materials, our closets, our bookcases, etc. It really felt like we were moving. We were having most of our carpets on the two upper levels restretched. Since we were moving furniture anyway, we decided to change the use of some of our rooms. More photos to come later.
On Saturday afternoon, we took an hour and a half to walk through the county fair with Britton, Jenna, Korinne and Jameson. Oh, I almost forgot that Hilary and I took a muscle testing class in the morning. That was extremely interesting and hopefully the information will turn out to be useful.
Below are photos taken at the fair. The first thing we checked out were the animals. Steve loves to see the farm animals. Of course, we have to check out the farm equipment too. This is where Korinne was stung twice by bees. It was traumatic but we found the first aid station and the attending nurse was very helpful in calming her fears. Nevertheless, her stings still hurt. I believe the yummy funnel cakes helped out. Jameson tasted everyone's funnel cake but chose to spend his money on a ride. Since no one had any money left to ride with him, he chose the relatively safe train roller coaster. The kids loved the free handouts especially the freeze pops at the end.
Here is the chaos of our family room during the re-stretching process.
Yesterday afternoon we hosted a pioneer activity for the members of our primary class who completed the 30 chapters in 30 days reading challenge in the Book of Mormon. The goal is to have all class members read the entire Book of Mormon by the end of the year. We have had periodic rewards to keep them on task. We had pioneer games and fun in our back yard yesterday.
Tiffany gave us the idea to fill a kiddie pool with cold water and add lots of ice to it to simulate the experience of crossing the cold rivers and streams. We timed them to see how long they could stand in the water. The most was 55 seconds. We also had a backpack with weights so they could experience carrying younger siblings across the river.
We did sticks pulls like Joseph Smith, and gunny sack races, apple bobbing, egg races, and a fishing pond. We also made and cooked our own apple and blackberry cobblers. The kids loved that. I admit we cheated by adding lots of vanilla ice cream. So yummy!I team teach with my childhood friend, Janet Aikele. She is a wonderful teacher and a great partner. Of course, my biggest support is Steve. I just couldn't pull this stuff off without his help.
Steve had the big job the day before of coordinating the furniture moving, the carpet work and the internet re-routing for our office and TV. He also moved a lot of stuff back into place by himself. We appreciate Britton's help with some of the larger items. Steve prepared thoroughly for this event and had a little platform on wheels that we used to slide things around. So far so good. We still have a lot of stuff to unpack and put away. Hopefully, we will dispose of some extra stuff along the way too.
