On our New Year's Eve day travels, we walked through this simulated rain forest as we changed planes in the Atlanta airport. As many times as we have been in this airport, we have never walked through this area before. It was very unusual and interesting.
We arrived home to snow in SL.
We were happy that we could spend the evening with Taylor's family as they prepared for their flight back to China the next morning. Preston loves his grandpa.

Tanner has arrived in SL to set up housekeeping for the next few months as he does an intership so he took this photo for us.

After taking Taylor's family to the airport, Tanner not only set up his bedroom and bath in the basement, he helped us move furniture around too. We are moving our stuff back to the basement and setting up the upstairs to be a furnished short term rental. Moving again, ha!
Later in the week, we were able to attend a basketball game in North Logan that Jantzen played in. His Madison team pulled off a big win in the final minutes. It was so fun to see Jantzen play!
And there was also snow in CV. We had our friend from SL come and prune our trees in CV.
Tanner joined us for a quick weekend trip to Rexburg on January 5th and 6th.
Aaron was sustained as bishop of a YSA ward on BYU-Idaho campus so we attended his sacrament meeting on the 6th. We knew he would speak but Heather was asked to speak the next Sunday so she was surprised when given the opportunity. She did a great job of course.
It was Jameson's 7th birthday on Sunday too. Sorry we missed his big celebration but we gave him his present on Saturday.
We drove directly back to SL on Sunday night since Steve had his first "skinhead" treatment on Monday. He will have three treatments where they put chemicals all over his face and head and then 90 minutes later they place him under a special light for about 20 minutes. It's interesting that they basically give him a severe sunburn to prevent skin cancer after years of sun"burn" exposure.
It is not a fun process but he has been a trooper. He covers his face with vinegar to soothe the burn.
I also had my first appointment with my long time hairdresser, Jana, since returning from our Missouri Mission. She was surprised that I had allowed my gray hair to rule but happy it turned out so nicely. She will continue to give me great haircuts.
Snow, snow and more snow!
While we were in Rexburg, we visited our dear mission friends Gary and Carolee Lovell. He had returned early from the mission on shortly after we left with a diagnosis of colon cancer. Gary sat on the edge of the bed and joked with us. He even stood up to walk. We were encouraged that he would be with us a little longer and expected to be able to visit with him again. That was not to be the case, however, as God called him home 4 days later. We were grateful to be able to attend his beautiful funeral on January 14th so we drove back to Rexburg on Sunday after church.
We arrived in time to attend a Sunday evening prayer circle with Aaron's YSA ward. We were asked to share a brief comment about our recent mission. There was a sister there who had served in our mission so we enjoyed meeting and visiting with her.
Elder Lovell was serving as the medical superviser for 9 missions. As he was located in our mission, he and Sister Lovell performed every imaginable service including cleaning apartments and moving furniture and organizing and caring for the household items stored in "The Cave." He always served with a smile and a joke. He was loved and respected by all and will be truly missed.
He wrote this hymn that his family sang at his funeral.
I started this Missouri memory quilt for him when I heard of his diagnosis. I finished it for Carolee and hope and pray that she will feel the loved and comforted by it.
Lucky for us, Jeff was in town to present his new educational tools to the State of Utah. He stayed at our house on Friday night, the 18th and we took him to the airport the next morning.
We all had a delicious breakfast at Annie's Café on Saturday morning. It was fun catching up with the Case family news and developments with Jeff's business. We felt so blessed that this worked so well with our schedule. We flew out that same afternoon for our next adventure.
