We celebrated Hilary's birthday a bit early as their plan was to be visiting Adam's family the weekend prior to her birthday. The neighbors had given us a bag of plums from their overloaded tree. I found a recipe for plum buckle which is a cross between a cobbler and a crisp. Anyway with vanilla ice cream, it was delish! Happy birthday to Hilary. She adds such sparkle to our family and her constant family history work is a blessing to all of us and our ancestors. Thanks, Hilary!

Last weekend with the C family gone, Steve and I really put our shoulders to the wheel and worked hard on the barn. We built shelves and sorted through boxes and were able to organize and find a place for many of his tools. His shop isn't ready to use yet, but we made great strides in getting stuff shelved and opening up the space in the barn.
We worked right up until dark which allowed us to really enjoy the sunset as we were out "in it." We have gorgeous sunsets here. We love them!
We also planted some other plants, watered everything, and tried to prepare the yard for the upcoming winter months. Steve mowed the grass one more time.
Our neighborhood is full of bright red maples which turn early in the season. We love them so much we are planning to add one to our yard next year. I also like it that they drop their leaves early so you have a chance to rake and remove the leaves before the weather gets nasty.
Friday, Adam's brother Michael was married in SL so they came down on Thursday night to stay overnight. That made it easier for me to take care of the kids during the ceremony and get them at the temple in time for pictures. It's always fun to share our cozy digs with kids and grandkids.
Saturday we attended Britton's last soccer game of the season. It was a warm, gorgeous day. We actually got hot watching the game. Their team won. Britton is a great passer.
After the game we joined the local crowds at the "Great Pumpkin Walk." I am always amazed at the hard work and talent displayed by the volunteers. Steve's favorite was a huge display centered around the old TV show "Mash." It was amazing. All of the characters were there in their favoriate settings--all made from pumpkins, squash or gourds.
The kids loved the Cabbage Patch, Dr. Seuss, Cars and the Toy Story characters.
This Grinch was really amazing.
So last weekend we really worked hard. This weekend we just played. We are trying hard to achieve a sense of balance. Can you tell?
