On Tuesday, we drove out to Antelope Island on our way to CV. Steve and I hadn't been there before which is kind of embarrassing. We are happy that Abigail and Tiffany had this on their agenda. It was fun to see a lot of buffalo and the old farm house. Steve could tell us about a lot of the tools and things they used in farming. A lot of them were similar to equipment and tools that my father used when he was growing up. Steve had a unique farming experience in his youth. It was very interesting and we would like to go back in warmer weather. Of course, if we do, there will be more people around too. It was definitely not crowded on a weekday in November.
Steve drove Tiffany and Abigail to meet up with Shawn at the freeway entrance to BC on Wednesday afternoon. They had decided to drive up to Idaho that night. We drove up early on Thursday morning. Our first stop was at the local grocery story for one item I had forgotten. We ended up starting our Thanksgiving Day with a little local apple cider and some donuts. It was a sweet beginning to a whole day of feasting on fabulous food, family laughter, and celebrating.
Steve's sister, Kathy and her husband, Brent, are amazing hosts for our traditional Thanksgiving celebration. Kathy works for weeks making amazing homemade candies and the food for our feast just can't be beat.
Adam is proof that a Bishop can make fantastic rolls. Regardless of his religious duties, he's our man for baking rolls.
The cousins have so much fun playing, bowling, eating, making crafts, watching fireworks and breaking the pinatas. We squeeze as much fun into this day as we can.
Steve's nephew, Shad, had the most interesting hairstyle of the day.
Some of the worker bees were exhausted by the time we finished dinner. It's really the tryptophan in the turkey that causes this.
You notice the kids aren't tired. They eat mostly rolls and desserts and very little turkey.
Here is a picture of Kathy's candy cupboard. It took her weeks to fill it. She made a nice box for each family to take with them too. She is amazing and the candy is supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
We left early for bowling this year. The battery on the Sequoia was tired after dinner too. It wouldn't start without some help. Later that evening, it stopped working again and Jake had to pull favors and do his magic to get a new one at the local automotive shop and replace it. Thanks, Jake, for taking care of this inconvenient problem.
Steve and Kathy's cousin, Janet, came by the bowling alley for a visit. That is the excuse Steve and Kathy used for not actually bowling.
Here's the bowling scoreboard for the adult women. I can't really read it, but I remember that Heather won by a significant margin. Contrats, Heather!
Then it was back to the house for fireworks, more food and finally DESSERT! We were too full to pull out the goodies earlier but they sure taste good after bowling.
Then we had two pinatas--one for kids 9 and under and one for kids 10 and up. That seemed to work out well. They whacked at the Mayflower and a sailor's chest.
Later that evening, our family members drove north to Heather and Aaron's for our overnight rest.
The next day we had a French toast marathon and hung out a few more hours together. After eating leftovers for lunch, we headed back to UT.
We drove all the way to Salt Lake so we could put Heather on a plane early, I mean 4 a.m., Saturday morning to begin an adventure in China. Everyone else went to CV to hang out there.
We sure know how to pack a lot of fun and activity into a couple of days. It was a great holiday, and we are so grateful to Kathy and Brent for being such fantastic hosts on Thanksgiving Day
