Book clubs, Open Houses, Flag Day, etc.

We finally got our garden planted and a few flowers.  Let's hope things grow this summer.  I am back in the swing of work with open houses, showing homes to buyers, etc.  I also hosted two book club evenings in June--one the first week and one the last week.  The good part of it was that both groups read the same book, "The Orphan Keeper" by Camron Wright which is based on a true story about a boy adopted from India and raised in Utah.  It is an excellent book and I served an Indian food called samosas, naan and hummus and fresh fruit.  At least I had the process down by the 2nd meeting.

Adam, Hilary, Korinne and Jameson came to our Murray house on Thursday, June 15.  Hilary and Adam are finally flying back to Ethiopia to bring home their toddler, Adam Jacob, called AJ.

Steve drove them to the airport to begin their long journey.  When he returned, we got ready for a trip to the zoo.  Our plan was to spend a couple of hours at the zoo and then meet up Jenna and Britton who had attended the Manti pageant with the youth conference group.
We arrived at the zoo and parked in the parking lot and then promptly received notification that the kids were at the meeting place, a hotel in Murray.  We loaded everyone back in the car and drove directly to the Holiday Inn and picked up Jenna and Britton.  Now we headed back to the zoo with everyone.

We enjoyed our visit to the zoo.  The weather was great and we were able to see a lot of the animals.  The train wasn't working, Jameson's favorite, so we settled for a ride on the carousel.

On our way home from the zoo, we stopped by Costco for fruit and final items for our Flag Day Breakfast the next morning.  The kids enjoyed the pizza and hot dogs.

That evening the older kids watched the younger kids while Steve and I attended a pre-funeral viewing for Ernie Smith, a friend for many years
Kristen had cooked for their apartment of guys back in her BYU days.  We connected again while raising our children in the Murray South stake. We went early as we knew there would be a big crowd.  As it happened, we were fortunate enough to enter the building directly behind Elder Russell M. Nelson and his body guard.  We stood back and observed him kindly and gently greet family members and express his condolences.  It was a special experience to be in his presence.
Later that night, Steve made another airport run to pick up Taylor, Jen, Will and June.  We got everyone directly in bed because we needed to start early in the morning setting up the breakfast at a pavilion which is conveniently close to our home there.

Mike Smith played the Star Spangled Banner on his trumpet which was a highlight of the event for me.  It brings tears to my eyes.  We really appreciate Mike sharing his talent and improving our patriotic even.

It was so fun to have Jen and Taylor with us for our breakfast.  Taylor had a nice visit with his cousin, Dustin and several other long time friends.
It is a tradition for several family friends to attend our breakfast.  Below are members of the Nicolaysen family.
Wendy's mother embroidered these cute aprons with our names.  Thanks to her, we were stylin.
My brothers, Greg and Steve supported our event.  Steve does a lot of work helping us with the breakfast each year and I surely appreciate it.  Wendy and her family also helped to fill in the gap with Adam and Hilary missing.  Korinne and Jenna did a great job on the fish pond for me.

Everyone helped to clean up and then we headed north for CV.  Taylor was eager to ride his bike.  We also had our father's day dinner that night as they were headed back to SL after church to have father's day dinner with Jen's dad.  Taylor made a quick trip to the Insta Care to determine whether he had broken his wrist when he crashed his bike on the mountain Saturday afternoon.  Fortunately, he didn't so that was good news.
These two cousins have lost their front teeth.  In fact June lost one while they were jumping in the bounce house.  She said it got caught in the net.  June and Jmo are two peas in a pod and they have a lot of fun together.  It was nice that they could spend a little time together before Taylor flew out to CA for work meetings and Jen went south to spend time with her sister.

On Tuesday night, our ward had a picnic.  It was nice for the kids to have something to look forward to.  Britton and Jenna were practicing cross-country every morning at 6 and then hurrying home to prepare for EFY by 9.  They finished at 9 p.m. at night so they missed the picnic.
Jmo and Korinne played with their friends.  Jameson got a green dinosaur painted on his face.  The blue grass band was primarily made up of a family from our ward with a couple of additional people. Their music is really fun and it added a lot to the atmosphere of the picnic.

There were a few long hogie sandwiches left so the committee members gave us a couple for Hilary's family to have for supper the next day.  That turned out to be very helpful since they were all so exhausted from their long trip home.
