More About China...

William and William hang out together. Here's the meal their maid prepared for us one night. Everyone starts with a bowl of rice and then we add the vegetable dishes to the rice. There are also some chicken wings but they were quite spicy. The maid holds the baby while Jen eats and then the maid eats after we are finished. The maid buys the veggies and fruits at the local street markets. I will show you pictures of those. For the most part, her food was very tasty and we enjoyed it.

Here we are in the Metro checking out. See the photos below. Some interesting kinds of fruit.

This large fruit is called stinky fruit. We didn't try it.

They had long tables of fish on ice. They also had some swimming around in tanks. We skipped eating fish. It just didn't do anything for us.

We went to the Metro which is a store kind of like the Chinese version of Costco because it has a bit of everything and you need a membership card. Here is Jen with the rice cookers. She has William in the sling. We got a kick out of the size especially compared to the other appliances that you will see next. When we got to the check out, they asked Tay for his card and he says he doesn't have one. They don't want to put his stuff back so they just check him out anyway. This is a typical Chinese refrigerator--like a bar fridge in the US. Taylor and Jen have an American sized fridge in their apartment. Most Chinese buy fresh food daily at their neighborhood "wet" market.

Here is a typical washing machine for those who have them. They hang their laundry outside to dry on their balconies or just on hangers from the electric wires that run above their doorways.

Here is Jen & Tay's kitchen which was small to us but is very nice by Chinese standards. They have a propane cook top, fridge, dish sanitzer (not washer) which they never use. They also borrowed a small microwave which won't pop popcorn--it doesn't get hot enough, and a small toaster oven. Chinese don't bake. They steam their bread in baskets.
