Stalwart, faithful servant, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away peacefully on April 28, 2011 at his home in Mapleton, UT at the age of 97.
Born to Annie S. and Robert M. Kerr in Ora, Idaho on April 7, 1914, he was the oldest of five children and is survived by Douglas L. Kerr, brother, and Coral Clifford, sister. He was preceded in death by brothers, Lyman S. and Joseph (Jay) Kerr.
He was an exceptionally hard worker and excelled in school and everything he did. He graduated with a law degree from the University of Idaho in 1936 at age 22. He served as an assistant to the Attorney General for the State of Idaho, Bingham County prosecutor, and maintained an active legal pratice for 66 years. At the time of his death, he was the oldest living contually licensed attorney in the State of Idaho. He held his law license for 75 years.
He was a flight instructor in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Active in the Boy Scouts of America throughout his life, he served as president of the Tendoy Scout Council and received the Silver Beaver award.
As a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, his church service included over 20 years in the stake presidency as a counselor and state president. He served as a counselor to two temple presidents in the Idaho Falls Temple. One of his greatest joys was performing temple weddings for his children and grandchildren.
He married Aloha McMurray on April 1, 1942, in the Logan Temple. They had five children, Steve, Kristen K. Price (Steve), Gregory, Catherine Stringham (Clay) and Jacqueline Lofthouse (Val). Aloha passed away on Sept. 23, 1969.
He married Ann Thueson on June 4, 1970. She had four children, Byron Thueson (Raylene), Deanne Uriona (John Pace), Kelley Thueson (Karen), and Michelle Rigby (Blake). Their marvelous, combined family enjoyed sweet companionship for over 40 years. They have a posterity of 54 grandchildren and over 70 great-grandchildren, all of whom love and adore their patriarch fisherman.
The family expreses thanks to their hospice caregivers and doctors who so lovingly assisted them this past month. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Perpetual Education Fund, the Missionary Fund, or the Humanitarian Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or the charity of your choice.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, May 1 from 6-7 p.m. at the Mapleton 1st Ward, 31 West Maple St., Mapleton, Utah.
Funeral services will be at the Blackfoot Stake Center, 1650 Highland Dr., Blackfoot at noon on Tuesday, May 3, with a viewing preceding from 10:30-11:30 a.m. under the direction of Hawker Funeral Home.
Interment will be in the Fielding Memorial Park, Idaho Falls.
