All Things Blueberry & Lobster in Bar Harbour

Our next stop in Bar Harbour started out drizzly and foggy but the weather gradually changed to crisp and sunny.  This town is a quaint, delightful, delicious tourist magnet.  I was determined to eat a lobster roll.  Steve had his sights set on all things made with blueberries.

I think he started out with a piece of blueberry pie.  When we stepped in the deli to check out the pie, the man behind the counter said if Steve could tell him the Maine's largest export, he would give him $10.  The second largest export is blueberries.  Steve correctly stated that Maine's largest export is potatoes.  The local shop owner was flabbergasted.  He said that no one had ever guessed that correctly and he had been asking people for years.  The common response is lobster.  Steve laughed and suggested that he check the tourist's home state prior to asking the question.  Idahoans know that their biggest competition is Maine.  We were reminded of that fact the day before when we ate the potato donut.  The proprietor gave Steve a piece of blueberry pie for free.  Steve was happy with that.  It was delicious!

This restaurant was very busy.  The folks walking out were all smiles and happy with their food.  If we ever go back, we will find it and give it a try.

Steve's favorite blueberry treat was the homemade ice cream at AJ's Ice Cream.  The owner makes it fresh every day.  The ice cream was creamy, smooth and very tasty.  I enjoyed my bites too.
We decided to grab an early lunch so we could beat the ever-increasing tourist groups to the punch.  We were very happy with our choice of restaurants, getting an amazing seat overlooking the the local park and harbor.  We chose bowls of chowder and lobster bisque and a warm lobster roll.  The soups were heavenly.  I loved the lobster roll more than Steve did, however.  In the end, we couldn't resist the blueberry crisp.  Our lunch was fabulous and so was this view.

Steve is standing in the park with our lunch restaurant behind him.  We sat behind the window in the far right hand corner.
Here is our ship in the harbor and a "tall ship" with the sails down.  At this harbor, we had to ride  tender boats from the ship to the dock. After lunch, we boarded a harbor boat for a nature tour of the bay.  We were scheduled to see wildlife, colorful changing leaves and some of the mansions owned by wealthy folks along the shore.  Acadia National Park provided the background as we gazed at the mansions on the land.

We were some of the first people on the tour boat so we had our pick of seats.  It was completely full prior to setting off.

We saw the activity of many seals on this island which also had an abandoned lighthouse.
We also saw many eagles, this tall ship sailing out of the harbor and thousands of buoys marking lobster traps.  It was a beautiful afternoon and turned out to be a delightful day.  I even bought an official Bar Habour Maine rain jacket.
