Last Monday was not only the beginning of a new work week, it was the beginning of a new era. Monday morning our beautiful, but struggling flowering pear tree was guarding our home, yard and especially Steve's corner office. By Monday afternoon, it was gone.
A few days later, it was replaced by an Eastern Redbud. May it grow ever strong and beautiful. Many of the trees in our subdivision had blight including ours. The HOA arranged for a special price to replace the trees. However, most trees won't be replaced until spring. Steve arranged with the contractor to plant a larger tree and do it right away. When you are williing to pay extra, you usually get a little service. I'm sure missing the 22 or so trees that they removed this week, but I'm glad a few other neighbors followed our lead and paid extra to have a couple of larger trees planted this fall.
Since Steve didn't have to leave town, we drove north to celebrate Hilary's birthday and to join them in viewing their local "Pumpkin Walk". It was a fun evening. We celebrated with Steve's favorite apple crisp. Hilary was okay with that, but the grandkids skipped it and went straight to the ice cream. Maybe someday they will catch the spirit of "apple crisp." Happy 35th Brithday, Hilary! Was that okay to share?
